Hi! I’m an associate professor in international relations at Durham University, where I am also director of the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies. Educated in China, Japan, Italy, and Belgium, I previously worked at Queen’s University Belfast, the Université libre de Bruxelles, and the University of Copenhagen.

My research interests lie broadly within critical IR, political geography, and cultural studies. Some of my earlier work was focused on citizenship and migration in both European and Chinese contexts. More recent projects are concerned with digital narratives and the global right. I am a co-editor of Geopolitics and an editorial team member of Made in China Journal.

My book Easting the West: Theorizing the Postliberal Conjuncture from China is coming out in June 2026.

Beyond my academic work, I am producer and co-host of 时差 In-betweenness, a mandarin Chinese podcast featuring early(ish) career researchers. I am also translator of Rebecca Solnit’s Men Explain Things to Me (English to simplified Chinese, People’s Literature Press 2020). I am a fellow at the Transnational Institute.
